It is the work of Hirotaka Umehara(), the second generation traditional craftsman of Gyokko Toen(). The material is a special mud called vermilion mud. It is baked at high temperatures without any glaze using carbonization firing, giving the work a unique matte black finish. What is carbonization firing? It is a
