This is a great example of a Civil War era medical crutch, measuring 48 long in total. The crutch is of crude and period construction and likely would not work as a crutch today. There is no rubber or cushion remaining at the bottom, with the bottom piece appearing to have been glued back on a while ago. This makes sense as the original rubber would have worn away ages ago. There is an X carved into the crutch below
