Coney Island Vintage Handkerchief Box with Waterskier Philadelphia I am not quite sure

I am not quite sure what purpose it might have had other than to serve as a decorative souvenir

and a crack at one corner where one slab meets another

The thin yet durable quality of bear grass allowed for a minute arrangement of warp and weft

but with its solid black ground also looks really sharp against crisp white bedding

Coney Island Vintage Handkerchief Box with Waterskier Philadelphia I am not quite sureI just adore the painted water skiing woman on this vintage handkerchief box, a souvenir from Coney Island circa 1950s. Constructed of leather covered cardboard with a red fabric lining, it's definitely seen some use, but I think is all the better for it. If no longer for handkerchiefs, I think it would be terrific for holding love letters, or else an assortment of trinkets collected on various travels. The box measures 5 3 4 square and 1 5 8" tall.
