All that I know for sure about this fabulous old snake painting on wood is that it was found on the back of a 19th century French armoire and presumed French

some scattered light dirt

probably installed right below the clock’s face

with three different openings and three different levels

The hook has a threaded end, from which the wooden bolt screws off, though I haven't managed to remove the hook from its "bracket." I think I'd mount it to the wall as a completely useless suggestion of a hook. 11" long x 1 1 2" wide x 5 13 16" d and in good condition, nice dry wood patina, with a few nicks to the wood
