except for an auction record for a beautiful ceramic lamp from a Rhode Island estate sold at auction that noted his dates as 1914-1982

Indeed. And while most everything feels existential to me these days, certainly this portrait of a very solitary seeming, very young (Native?) man in his hat on his horse out in the land with smoky looking sky sure does.
