I'd guess she dates to the early 1900s or so

and that this was was her laundry stick throughout from girlhood to old age

The green painted letters on one side, nailed onto the sign, are about 3 4" of an inch raised; the other side seems once to have had them as well but they were removed, leaving a great surface behind that I like as much as the front.
