with a bit of yellow paint near where the handle meets the head

It appears to have been hand-painted and additionally features very fine incising on each of the small "petals" that surround the repeating circular forms with black dots

Antique Carved Wooden Cherub Presumed 18th Century French coiled with a bit of yellowThis wonderful little antique carved wooden cherub I am guessing is French, believe dates to the 18th century, and imagine came from a church or perhaps a piece of furniture. As I write this, Notre Dame is burning, so at the moment it looks to me rather sad, though yesterday I thought it looked quite beatific. I found it at the Wellesley, MA estate sale of artist Lois Gross Smiley (1925 2019), a prolific artist who came up with the Abstract
