During WW1 trench warfare and the terror of a gas attack was continually present. Due to the close quarters and explosions so much noise was always occurring that it became essential to find a unique way of warning the troops that a gas attack was under way. Whistles, sirens and all forms of explosive reports were hourly occurrences so the introduction of the gas rattle was adopted. Basically, this is an all wood
