One of the things I really love about this unusually large English schoolgirl sampler is that it includes both alphabets and numbers (including roman numbers I-V) AND darning samples (the square patterns on the lower half)

"The Guide to Happines" Christmas 1848 Punch Paper Embroidery Bookmark ebony and bone Given its ageQuite an early punch paper embroidery, dated Dec. 25, 1848, and I think a pretty great one, casting the bible as "the guide to happiness" minus one "s". Pretty wreath of greens encircling the book, and lovely silk ribbon for the bookmark too. All in remarkably good condition. Embroidery itself: 3 5 8" x 2". Overall: 13 1 2" x 2 3 8". Very very good condition.
