making one nostalgic for the nearly lost art of sign painting--and also for the prices of yesteryear

with the benefit of a nice handle for moving it around and setting it down

dating to the 1940s I believe

but it seems perhaps kinder to leave them as companions as they have made it together thus far

It's a (very) homemade box, I think the work of a young Horace Chase, who signed his name to one side of it, and then Stanley Chase, his younger brother I presume, took it over and signed his name to the lid, and another side, and then started in on a third.
